After smelling gas for a week, said one person, there was a major explosion in San Bruno, CA tonight. (9 September 2010.
With a thunderous roar heard for miles, a natural gas line explosion ripped through a San Bruno neighborhood shortly after 6 p.m. Thursday, sending up a geyser of fire, critically burning residents and igniting a blaze that gobbled up more than a dozen houses.
The wind-whipped blaze jumped from structure to structure in the area near Skyline Boulevard and Sneath Lane, west of Interstate 280, raging unabated for almost an hour as emergency crews rushed in, residents cleared out, and ambulance sirens filled the air.
The central ball of fire, fed by the gas line, raged past nightfall before abating. By then, about 20 houses and thick stands of trees were engulfed in flames. Power was cut off to the area, and the only light came from emergency vehicles and the smoldering houses.
Omar Naber and his mother, Lana Naber, were in their home at 1141 Vermont Ave., just east of Skyline and south of Sneath, when the house shook violently about 6:15 p.m.
“I thought it was the biggest earthquake ever,” he said.
Pacific Gas and Electric Co. spokesman Jeff Smith said one of the utility’s natural gas transmission lines ruptured. The reason for the rupture is unknown, he said.

Illegal Gypsy’s in France expelled to Eastern Europe after clashes with police! —
Posted by: | CommentsIllegal Gypsy Immigrants expelled from France in July 2010!
French police shot and killed a gypsy or Roma youngster, as he fled police in the Loire Valley. That began clashes with the police.
French President Nicolas Sarkozy ordered the government authorities to expel all the illegal Roma to Romania, or at least out of the France.
France’s relationship with what it calls Gypsies is complex and complicated by divisions among the disparate populations. The gypsy’s are called “traveling folk,” by some in the French administration. The gypsy population totals several hundred thousand French citizens who have lived in France for centuries, and were traditionally nomadic but have become increasingly sedentary in recent years as they have grown older.
In France the other main Gypsy population is made up of recent immigrants who come mostly from Eastern European countries like Romania and Bulgaria, usually illegally, and are often seen begging on the streets of French cities.
Note: The Gypsy peoples originate from Sind region now in Pakistan. Their Rom language is close to the older forms of Indian languages. The three tribes of Rom, Sinti, and Kale probably left India after a succession of campaigns in Sind through the C11, initially spending time in Armenia and Persia, then moving into the Byzantine Empire after the Seljuk Turk attacks on Armenia. Within the Byzantine Empire they dispersed into the Balkans reaching Wallachia (1385) and Moldavia (1370) ahead of this area falling to the Ottoman Turks. Other groups also moved through India to Gujarat and south of Delhi. Gypsy populations can still be found along all these migration routes.

Britney Spears’ Attorney implies her former bodyguard must prove sexual harassment! —
Posted by: | CommentsPhoto: Pacific Coast News
After mounting a successful comeback and maintaining a relatively low profile in the press for the past year,Britney Spears is now dealing with another bout of disturbing claims regarding her personal life.
On Wednesday, Fernando Flores, Spears’ ex-bodyguard, filed a sexual harassment lawsuit alleging that the singer made multiple unwelcome passes at him, exposed herself on numerous occasions and engaged in sex in front of her two young sons. On Britney’s site she denied the allegations.
The accusations are harsh, however, according to a legal expert, it’s up to Flores to provide the evidence.
“What he’s gonna have to show in making these allegations is that he was subjected to a hostile work environment, and it’s gonna have to be hostile in two ways: one, that a reasonable person similarly situated would have been offended by the conduct and secondly that he was actually offended by the conduct,” Michael Bononi, a partner at Bononi Law Group in Los Angeles, told MTV News.

Tell the Somali Pirates the U.S. Marines have Landed! —
Posted by: | CommentsU.S. Marines of the 15th Marine Expeditionary Unit’s Maritime Raid Force, from the USS Dubuque (LPD 8), approach to board the Magellan Star in the Gulf of Aden, September 9, 2010.
U.S. Marines boarded and seized a commercial German vessel in the Gulf of Aden that had been attacked and boarded by pirates a day earlier, the U.S. Fifth Fleet said in a statement on Thursday.
A group of 24 marines, operating within a 25-nation coalition to combat piracy along the east cost of Africa, took control of the ship, Magellan Star, from nine pirates.
No casualties or injuries were reported.
Hijackings off the coast of Somalia have earned pirates tens of millions of dollars in ransoms, raised shipping insurance premiums and forced ships to take longer, costlier routes to dodge pirate hot spots.
Control of the ship has been returned to the civilian mariners, the Navy said.

Merkel to honor Mohammed cartoonist at press award! —
Posted by: | CommentsGerman Chancellor Angela Merkel risked angering Muslims by speaking at an awards ceremony on Wednesday for a Dane whose cartoons of the Prophet Mohammed provoked sometimes violent protests by Muslims five years ago.
The 75-year-old cartoonist Kurt Westergaard, whose drawings of Mohammed that offended Muslims worldwide first appeared in Danish paper Jyllands-Posten in 2005, was due to receive a prize Wednesday evening at a conference on freedom of the press.
At a time of fierce debate in Germany over disparaging remarks about Muslim immigrants made by a central bank member, some Muslims criticized the center-right chancellor and the media said she was taking a risk by honoring a man whom many Muslims believe insulted their faith.
Aiman Mazyek of the Central Council of Muslims in Germany said in a statement: “Merkel is honoring the cartoonist who in our view trampled on our Prophet and trampled on all Muslims.”
“By having her photo taken next to Kurt Westergaard, Merkel is taking a huge risk,” wrote the conservative daily Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung before the ceremony.
“It will probably be the most explosive appointment of her chancellorship so far.”
The mass-circulation Bild, which has voiced admiration for Bundesbank member Thilo Sarrazin for depicting Turkish and Arab immigrants as welfare spongers who fail to integrate, praised Westergaard and said Merkel’s presence showed Germany “does not back down in the face of threats from Islamist fanatics.”
Organizers of the M100 Media Prize to be awarded at Potsdam near Berlin said the cartoons had “triggered an international controversy about freedom of speech and sparked worldwide, partly violent demonstrations of Muslims who felt insulted.”
Most Muslims consider any depiction of the founder of Islam to be offensive, and the Danish cartoons portrayed Mohammed with a turban shaped like a bomb. At least 50 people died in ensuing riots by enraged Muslims in the Middle East, Africa and Asia.

Thilo Sarrazin stirs controversary in Germany with his book “Abolish Germany” —
Posted by: | CommentsOnline: http://www.thelocal.de/opinion/20100907-29659.html
His resignation, announced Thursday, means President Christian Wulff no longer has to decide whether to approve the Bundesbank’s request, an awkward task that threatened to expose Merkel to a backlash from conservative voters. Sarrazin, a former finance minister of the city of Berlin had long been outspoken, but recent claims that Jews shared a particular gene and Muslim immigrants were lowering the intelligence quotient of German society proved a tipping point.
Polls have showed Germans are divided about Sarrazin’s views, though many phone-ins came out strongly in his favor.
His 464-page book, which has become a bestseller, argues in part that Muslims undermine German society, sponge off the state and may swamp the country due to a higher birth rate.
While in the capital, Sarrazin won praise for cutting the city’s huge budget deficit, racking up the first budget surplus in its postwar history in 2007.
Germans must forget the hysteria surrounding Thilo Sarrazin and take an honest look at the integration of immigrants into their society, argues Roger Boyes, the Berlin correspondent for the British daily The Times.

- Two-thirds of Germans disagree with Sarrazin – Society (3 Sep 10)

Polls have showed Germans are divided about Sarrazin’s views, though many phone-ins came out strongly in his favor.
His 464-page book, which has become a bestseller, argues in part that Muslims undermine German society, sponge off the state and may swamp the country due to a higher birth rate.
While in the capital, Sarrazin won praise for cutting the city’s huge budget deficit, racking up the first budget surplus in its postwar history in 2007.
A year ago a Turkish entrepreneur set up a kebab shop just opposite my favourite baker near the entrance to the train station. At first, there were Anatolian delights like Döner and Börek, then he expanded to include newspapers, coffee and grilled chicken. Finally, he ended up selling the classic Berlin fast food Currywurst. Last week the shop was shut.
A sad development for him personally, but his business plan was not exactly brilliant: my neighbourhood Grunewald is not exactly famous for its thriving Turkish community – indeed many of its elderly German residents would probably be itching to call the police if they saw a young Muslim-looking man roving the streets.
Of course, the name Thilo Sarrazin has been on everybody’s lips in our sedate and resolutely conservative ‘hood lately. Attacking the alleged unwillingness of Muslim immigrants to integrate into German society, the disgraced Bundesbank board member has become a kind of martyr, a supposed truth-teller; a hero in the struggle against suffocating political correctness apparently on the rise in Germany. But we know that the story is a little more complex than that, don’t we?
Sarrazin’s controversial book, Deutschland schafft sich ab – Wie wir unser Land aufs Spiel setzen, or “Abolishing Germany – How we’re putting our country at jeopardy,” tries to use statistics to make a variety of contradictory arguments.
However, a talent for stirring up controversy — including his suggestion in 2008 that the poor could wear sweaters if their heating bills got too dear — meant many in the SPD were glad to nominate him for a move to the Bundesbank in 2009.
Prominent figures were not spared his scorn.
In 2007, Sarrazin called ex-SPD chief Oskar Lafontaine an “arsehole” on television. Prominent German Jewish journalist Michel Friedman described having the same experience last week.
Sarrazin, a civil servant since 1975 whom the German press once nicknamed “Rambo” for his no-holds-barred approach to politics, alienated many of his former allies after departing Berlin for the Bundesbank in May 2009.

Detecting water on Earth-like planets offers the tantalising prospect they could sustain life.
Scientists hope the relection of light, or “glint”, from mirror-like ocean surfaces could be picked up by a US space telescope set for launch in 2014.
The research by US astronomers has been published in Astrophysical Journal Letters.

Obama tries to get U.S. to focus on good he has accomplished! —
Posted by: | CommentsThe Obama White House is searching for ways to kick start the U.S. economy. However the most recent stats don’t show that real estate, manufacturing, nor automotive markets are moving ahead. He is set on doing away with the Bush tax breaks. He is set on raising taxes on the wealthy. And in his Ohio speech he asked U.S. to focus on the good he has done.
He said the US cannot afford $700bn in tax cuts “to folks who are already millionaires”.
Mr Obama’s remarks in Ohio came as the faltering US economy emerges as the key issue in November’s mid-term elections.
Republicans have attacked Mr Obama’s economic stewardship, while he has criticised what he calls obstruction to Democratic job creation efforts.
On Friday, the labour department said the US economy lost 54,000 jobs in July, with unemployment rising to 9.6%.

SALUTE TO 9/11/01 — World Trade Center Site! —
Posted by: | CommentsThe events of September 11, 2001, will never be forgotten by the people of New York City or America as a whole. The nature of the terrorist attacks on that day and the brave response of the heroes of New York City’s Police and Fire Departments clearly showed, in one day, the very worst and very best aspects of humanity. If you visit New York City, take a break from the big, brassy tourist attractions that embody the city and visit the World Trade Center site, also commonly known as New York Ground Zero, at the corners of Liberty and Church streets in lower Manhattan.
Visitors can currently find the Tribute Center at 120 Liberty Street, where there is a gallery, information, tours, and a chance to reflect upon the tragedies of 9/11 and the World Trade Center bombing on February 26, 1993, in which six people were killed and more than 1,000 injured. The Tribute Center forms a temporary Ground Zero Memorial during the construction of the permanent Ground Zero Memorial. Of the New York City tours you experience, this may be the most important. Although vastly different from any other experience you will have during your New York City vacation, a trip to the World Trade Center site is a powerful, moving piece of history that should not be missed.
Reflecting Absence, will include the footprints of the former twin towers as recessed pools, with the largest manmade waterfalls in the country and the victims’ names inscribed around the edges of the pools. The absence of the buildings that stood there, and the people who occupied them on that day, is obvious and not to be forgotten no matter the future rebuilding of the complex. Plant life and quiet public spaces will occupy the street level as a calm oasis amid the hustle of the financial district, and sweetgum trees—whose leaves will turn to red and gold around September 11—will be planted around the memorial grounds. Below the street level at the World Trade Center Memorial site will be the areas for more privtate reflection. The plan was chosen as the winner of an international competition for architects and is the work of New York City’s own Michael Arad and Peter Walker.
The main office building that will stand elsewhere on the sixteen-acre site is called Freedom Tower, which will stand 1,776 feet high, an extremely tall addition to the New York City skyline. Its placement on the World Trade center site will be adjacent to the memorial site. The tower originally was planned to be much less traditional in its architecture, but is now planned to balance existing Manhattan skyscraper aspects with a stunning new design legacy of its own.
During the construction of the World Trade Center Memorial site and the commercial structures that will occupy the World Trade Center site, visitors to New York Ground Zero may come and see the progress of the World Trade Center Memorial site, and reflect on the dual purpose of this place: to move on with confidence, but never forget.

Fidel Castro, 84, reports that Communism is ruining his country! —

The aging Cuban leader told a journalist from The Atlantic the island’s economic system is not worth exporting because it doesn’t work for Cubans anymore.Over a glass of red wine and a few bites of fish, Cuban strongman Fidel Castro coughed up what most have known for decades: The island’s economic model is broken.
During a lunchtime interview in Havana last week, Jeffrey Goldberg, a correspondent for The Atlantic magazine, asked the ailing leader if Cuba’s economic system was still worth exporting to other nations.
According to Goldberg’s blog, Castro replied, “The Cuban model doesn’t even work for us anymore.”
EDITOR’S NOTE: A while back, a German couple visited Cuba. They had a very nice dinner at their hotel. As they were chatting with the server, he told them that he is paid by the hotel. His wages are scraps of food that are left by the customers. So the German guest saved out some of his food and gave it to the server who put it in a bag and took it home to his family.
