www.LC.org Liberty Counsel News Release  February 6, 2010.

New York City, NY – This weekend Mathew D. Staver, Founder and Chairman of Liberty Counsel and Dean of Liberty University School of Law, will appear on Mike Huckabee’s show to discuss potentially dramatic changes to the framework of textbooks that are being discussed by the Texas State Board of Education (TSBOE). Huckabee and Staver will be revealing suggested changes, some of which are still under discussion. TSBOE will soon finalize the language that textbook publishers use to align their textbooks to current standards. As Texas is a leader in textbooks, most other states purchase the same educational materials. The show will begin at 8:00 p.m. on Saturday and 2:00 a.m. and 8:00 p.m. on Sunday, Eastern Time.

Some of the suggestions that have come forward at various times include:

  • Removing references to Daniel Boone, General George Patton, Nathan Hale, Columbus Day, and Christmas.
  • Including the cultural impact of hip hop music, ACLU lawyer Clarence Darrow, and the Hindu holiday of Diwali.
  • Replacing the term “American” with “Global Citizen”– stating that students need to be shaped “for responsible citizenship in a global society” without any mention of citizenship in American society.
  • Replacing expansionism and free enterprise with imperialism and capitalism.

Cynthia Dunbar, an elected member of the TSBOE and Assistant Professor at Liberty University School of Law, stated “James Madison warned us that when error is allowed to become steeped in precedent it leads to tyranny. If an erroneous view of our American heritage is allowed to stand, that view will be even more entrenched when we revisit this issue again in 10 years. Since the board consists of only 15 members, the decision of eight individuals may determine what goes into textbooks on a national level; it is crucial that the voices of patriotic Americans be heard.”

The Board’s next meeting is in March and the final reading and adoption of the social studies guidelines will be in May. Make your voice heard now, before the next meeting. Please call the board at 512-463-9734 and encourage them to promote traditional, pro-American language in their guidelines, or you may email them at sboeteks@tea.state.tx.us.

Mathew Staver commented: “To have a bright future we must know our past. Those who want to reshape America begin by rewriting our past. We repeat the mistakes of the past when we are ignorant of them. America has a rich past founded on Judeo-Christian values. To forget them, or worse, to distort them, will doom our future. That is why the textbook controversy in Texas affects every American.”

Massachusetts Senator Elect Scott Brown Takes the Oath!

Posted by: Mike Russell | Comments Comments Off

Sen. Scott Brown (R-Mass.) was sworn in Thursday evening on the Senate floor, officially taking the seat held for 46 years by the late Ted Kennedy. Brown, who won a Jan. 19 special election and broke the Democrats filibuster-proof 60 seats, was given the oath of office by Vice President Joe Biden. Brown arrived in Washington on Thursday, just hours after his election was certified in Massachusetts, and he was welcomed by Republicans as the magic 41st GOP senator. Before his swearing in, the former state legislator was greeted at the Russell Senate Office Building by a pool of reporters and cameras, holding the media off as he reached into the back of his vehicle to retrieve his certification papers. ”It’s exciting,” Brown said to the crowd. “I’m humbled and honored to represent the people of Massachusetts. Now it’s time to get to work.”

In front of a bipartisan group of senators and a packed gallery, Brown took the oath of office alongside Sen. John Kerry (D-Mass), with whom he talked for several minutes on the floor while awaiting his swearing-in. Brown shared a moment on the floor as well with Rep. James McGovern (D-Mass.)—Brown’s Congressman for many years and a confidant, the newly-minted senator said as he walked to a ceremony in the old Senate chamber following his official oath. Thursday also marked the final day of service for Sen. Paul Kirk, the Democrat charged with completing Kennedy’s term. Kirk, who said he has worked closely with Brown to ease the transition between offices, gave farewell remarks on the Senate floor Thursday afternoon, reflecting on Kennedy’s legacy.  February 4, 2010. EDITORIAL NO.2

The Democrats in Washington are calling The Republicans, “The Party of No!”

How great an ego it must take by some of the Democrats in Washington to call the Republicans “The Party of No!”  The leftist Demo majority in congress has spent more than a year pushing and shoving those who disagree with the Demo’s goal to turn the U.S. into a socialist nation that we have fought against since 1776.

It is the talk of the nation that so many Democrats will be going down along with their socialist leanings in the upcoming mid-term elections this November.  Those who oppose these elected congressmen and women and their leanings, are scared to death at the Tea Party Conventions and the large Town Hall meetings that have been grossly ignored by the congressmen and senators who refuse to listen to the people’s opinion and their unhappiness with the current administration and poor usage of our tax dollars.

If they were not aware of what they have been foisting upon the American people when they began this onslaught to spend tax dollars in such a foolish way, then why are they running scared today?

The Health Care Bill:  Americans aren’t against the changes in the health care programs we now have, but they certainly are against the secretive manner in which the congress has moved to change things behind the voter’s backs.

Who was in charge of the Over-Sight Committees in congress when  AIG, Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac were doing their thing that eventually brought down the mortgage market and affected the entire world.  Aren’t the Democratic power boys and girls guilty of ignoring their buddy’s wrongdoings?

Take a look at who was in charge of the over-sight committees then and see how many of those in congress and the senate are still in office.   When it comes to voting these candidates back in office in the mid-term and 2012 elections, we should make note of how many friends and neighbors we can talk with who will be voting these “firmly entrenched” Demos out of office.

But, let’s make sure we know and understand who we are voting in to replace them.

Classic liberal headline: New Orleans elects

first

white mayor since 1978

So what? Who cares that the guy is white? Was this some kind of repudiation of his predecessor, the black guy, Ray Negin? If is was a repudiation, was it because Negin is black? Or was it because he was incompetent in handling the Katrina distaster?

Incidentally, New Orleans, as Reuters reminds us in a race-centric write-up, is still a majority black city.

Landrieu, a Democrat and Louisiana’s lieutenant governor, won more than 50 percent of the vote, defeating a field of 10 other competitors and avoiding a run-off election. Democrat Troy Henry, a black businessman, came in second.

Landrieu, 49, the son of New Orleans’ last white mayor, Moon Landrieu, rode a wave of discontent over the slow pace of the city’s recovery from Hurricane Katrina in 2005 and rampant crime.

In his victory speech, Landrieu said his election showed that voters wanted a city that was “unified rather than divided.”

About two-thirds of New Orleans’ population is black and Landrieu was helped by his father’s legacy of desegregating the city. Moon Landrieu left office in 1978.

It is too bad liberals aren’t more colorblind. If they would just stop calling people black men and white men and instead judge people by the content of their character, maybe we could improve race relations. You would think that liberal news organizations, who never pass up an opportunity to try to divide Americans by race, would, simply ignore the racial angle in the least “offensive” scenario when a black (oppressed) electorate elects a white (oppressor) politician.

There appears to be no race-based reason whatsoever for Landrieu’s win.
