Brilliant Spanish Pianist Alicia de Larrochia Dead at 86.

ALICIA DE LARROCHIA, DEAD AT 86.

Spanish pianist Alicia de Larrocha, a child prodigy who went on to become one of the greatest musicians of her era, has died aged 86.

Her performances of Mozart and Rachmaninov were unrivaled. She began playing piano at the age of two in her birthplace of Barcelona. Her adult career began in 1940. Larrochia’s performances of Spanish classical works are said to be the finest of all.  She was born May 23, 1923.  She died yesterday of cardiorespiratory failure.

Larrochia was hospitalized several days ago at Quiron Hospital, Malaga.
