Harrisburg, Pa (Blog.Jetsettingmagazine.com) –   Rep. John Murtha (D) 77, a long time critic of the Iraq War and whose ethics were often questioned, has died of complications following gallbladder surgery. He was an officer in the Marine Reserves and was the first Vietnam Veteran to be elected to congress.

For two decades Murtha held heavy control of the Pentagon budget. Although he gave his yes vote in 2002 when President Bush sought to employ force in Iraq; he continued to become a naysayer over the way Bush Administration was handling the war.

Murtha, 77, was Chairman of the House Appropriations Subcommittee on Defense.  He had a 37-year career in the U.S. Marine Corps, retiring from the Marine Corps Reserve as a colonel in 1990. He began his career in congress in 1974 and was in his 19th term and was the th most senior in the 435-member of the U.S. House of Representatives.  Murtha died in the Virginia Hospital Center in Arlington, Va. Feb. 8, 2010.
